"Looking at the earth from afar you realize it is you realize it is too small for conflict and just big enough for cooperation"
~ Yuri Gagarin
The launch of the Sputnik 1 left a spark that ignited the world. It started a revolution, known to us as the space race, that still has implications today. Apollo, the ISS, and even NASA would not exist if the push from the launch didn't happen. The innovation, even if founded by jealousy, made history that is still in progress today.
This fight between the superpowers was turned into a positive, with these launches pushing space exploration, which had little to no interest from the public, forward which created a legacy that is still happening to this day.
